Bobby Wolfe has been called the modern-day Stradivarius....the Babe Ruth of making resonators... the Michael Jordan of dobros... You get it. Mr. Wolfe has only made ~250 instruments, but his creations are some of the most in-demand resonators in the world. Many of them have ended up in the hands of pro players and collectors.
This one is serial #3. Number three!!! We cannot find any info regarding one this early being publicly available for sale. How often does a chance to own a renowned builder's #3 instrument come about? We reached out to the builder to confirm that this was truly #3 and we learned that the first 3 instruments made by Bobby Wolfe went to his 3 sons. Serial 1, 2, and this one, 3, all went to the three sons. One of the sons unfortunately passed away. This was his guitar, made by his father, for him.
On to the resonator - Solid Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with a Spruce top. Mahogany square-neck. As a luthier myself I was pretty excited to peek inside this one. Bobby's construction prowess and cleanliness is apparent. It's pretty impressive inside this guitar! We've inspected the whole instrument with a blacklight and a borescope and found no signs of previous repairs or modifications. This is just how he built it! No cracks, no issues! There is a bit of usual playwear, but no signs of abuse. It has been properly stored, with no signs of humidity or temperature damage.
The sound. Oh the sound. This one booms like a cannon but has the sweetest warmest sound. There's an immediacy to the notes...they just jump out of the guitar! This is a truly special instrument.
Includes the original case. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like more info.
