Another incredible one-off amp from Hunter Amplifiers!
Handmade right here in Kentucky!
From the builder:
So, about this amp. I am calling it a Gold-Faced Champ. It is a pretty strict interpretation of Fender's 1960s Champ amp, either the black-face or silver-face versions, as they are the same circuit. It is more compact than the original, and it has only one input, but otherwise, it follows the original (AA764) schematic as closely as possible. It is a class-A single-ended 5-watt tube amp that uses a 12AX7 pre-amp tube, a 6V6GT power tube, and a 5Y3GT rectifier tube. All components are brand new or NOS and mounted into a hand-punched and drilled aluminum chassis. I used a Carling power switch, carbon composition resistors in the signal path, F&T filter capacitors, and Mallory coupling capacitors. I tested all components to ensure they were within 2% of rated values before installing them. It has a brand new Jensen C8R 8-inch 15 watt speaker, and I used real Switchcraft (made in the USA) jacks for the input and speaker jacks. The power transformer is a Canadian-made Hammond brand (like the organs). Hammond transformers are some of the best you can buy.
It has only three controls on the front: volume, treble, and bass. I used an IEC input for the AC power, and it is properly grounded, so you needn't fear electrocution every time you touch your strings. It also has a Fender-style fuse holder that holds a 1 amp fuse. Finally, the custom hand-made cabinet is finger-jointed white pine with a hunter-green Tolex covering, a comfortable authentic Fender handle, and four little rubber feet. It's compact at 11½" x 13" x 7½" and weighs less than 15 pounds.
