silvertone-1484
Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve 60-watt - Modded Tube Amp Head and Speaker Cabinet

For your consideration, a 1965 Sears Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve. This is one of our all-time favorite Silvertone amps, and this one has been turned into a seriously useful rig.

When it arrived here, it was rough. It had already been through some questionable repairs and half-baked upgrades, but that is not always bad news. Sometimes that just means we get to hand it over to Bob at Hunter Amplifiers and let him work his magic. Our priority with amps like this is always safety, reliability, and usefulness. Returning every old amp to dead-stock spec is not always the best move, and this one is a great example of that.

The original reverb circuit had an issue with a shorted piezo transducer in the tank, so rather than forcing a weak fix, the reverb circuit was converted into a buffered parallel effects loop that uses the stock reverb knob as the level control. That is a very cool upgrade and makes this amp a whole lot more practical. Run your favorite outboard reverb or delay unit through it and enjoy. Beyond that, a proper three-prong grounded power cord was installed, and the ground switch, accessory outlet, and death cap were safely decommissioned. It also received a full recap of the electrolytics, plus replacement disc caps and resistors in the tremolo circuit to make it quieter than stock and better behaved tonally. New power tubes, tremolo tube, and driver tube were installed, and all pots, jacks, and switches were serviced and tightened.

The speakers have been replaced with an Eminence Cannabis Rex and an Eminence Legend 1275, which suits this amp very well. The back panel is missing. Cosmetically, it still looks rough, but electrically it is fully functioning and sounds fantastic. Honestly, this may be the best sounding 1484 we have had through here in all our years of chasing them. The original speaker baffle design on these was never a masterpiece, so if someone needed this for constant gigging duty, we would consider upgrading that at some point. As it sits right now though, it is absolutely usable and sounds killer.

Available for a test drive in our Jamestown, Kentucky showroom, and we ship worldwide.
