1942 Gibson ES-125 - w/ Original Case - P-13 Pickup
For your consideration, an exceptionally clean 1942 Gibson ES-125 Archtop Electric!
We are excited to offer this one-owner beauty to our customers. A gentleman here in Kentucky purchased this guitar brand new in 1942 and played in bands for a little bit before being drafted into the service for WWII. Upon returning home, the guitar was not used much and remained in possession of the original owner until making its way to us. We deal in early Gibsons archtops regularly, but examples this clean rarely pop up for sale. We were told that he would play it for 15 minutes, them spend an hour wiping it down before putting it back in the case, and it shows. Very minimal lacquer checking, and a vibrant finish throughout. The original tuners were replaced a long time ago, and so was one of the pots. The original pot is still in the case pocket. The original P-13 pickup is healthy, and all controls and the output jack work without any issues. We have examined the entire internal structure with a borescope and found everything to be original, intact, and remarkably clean. The sound posts are both firmly installed still. Freshly setup, the guitar plays great with low action and plenty of adjustability left to raise or lower the flatwound strings as needed. Check out that original pickguard! The original Geib case and instrument cable are included.
This version of the ES-125 model is a rarity, as it was introduced in 1941 and discontinued in 1942. When re-introduced in 1946, the ES-125 had a wider body and the new P-90 pickup mounted in the neck position, where it remained until 1970. It is unclear how many of these early-featured models were produced, but we sure don't see them often!
