1946 Martin D-28 - Herringbone & Brazilian Rosewood - w/ Case

For your consideration, an absolutely lovely 1946 Martin D-28! 

We're thankful for every opportunity to put our hands on a real 1940s 'bone, but this one stands out among the others for its sound, playability, and provenance. This is a real deal 1946 D-28 with herringbone trim and a Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, not a reissue, not a custom shop build. The real thing. If you chase these like we do, and are serious about Bluegrass, you've probably already heard and seen this exact guitar as it was owned and played for 32+ years by Bluegrass legend and Grammy award winner, James Alan Shelton. For the last 20 years of his life, this guitar was used on all Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys recordings and live performances. It was used all over the world and on countless Grand Ole Opry appearances. You've seen it on TV, you've heard it on the radio, and we all saw how it was lovingly embraced on the cover of several albums. The guitar includes a custom case with a James Alan Shelton name plaque, plus a previous bill of sale from the Shelton estate, and an old Gruhn appraisal where George Gruhn refers to this guitar as a both a very well-recognized piece of Bluegrass memorabilia and a superb musical instrument.  

This stunning ' bone is in playable condition and it sounds absolutely incredible. This is textbook D-28 example! The back of the neck was refinished, the guitar was refretted, a strap button was added to the heel, Gotoh tuners have been installed. The bracing is scalloped and there is overspray from a pro crack repair.... nothing uncommon for a dreadnaught from this era. The guitar has been properly stored and maintained and is in playable condition with no signs of abuse and no signs of pending issues.
