2004 Fender American Standard Telecaster – Chris Robertson Road Guitar

Every now and then a guitar comes back through the shop with a story attached to it. This one has a pretty good one.

This 2004 Fender American Standard Telecaster originally came through our shop years ago and was picked up by our friend Chris Robertson of Black Stone Cherry. Chris put this Tele to work the way guitars are meant to be used—on stages, on the road, and in front of crowds all over the country. It made plenty of laps across the U.S. and picked up a little character along the way.

Eventually the guitar found its way back home to us, which felt like a pretty cool full-circle moment.

The stickers on the body weren’t added for decoration—they were collected along the road from the places the band stopped along the way. In a way, the guitar has become something of a scrapbook from that chapter of its life, while still being exactly what it was built to be: a dependable, workhorse Telecaster.

And it really is a great Tele. It has that lively, responsive feel that makes these guitars so addictive, but it isn’t overly hot or aggressive. Chris clearly liked it for a reason—it’s balanced, musical, and easy to get along with.

We’ve intentionally left Chris’s strings and road DNA on the guitar. It plays great exactly the way it sits, and it feels like a piece of real working guitar history rather than something that’s been polished into a museum piece.

Chris was kind enough to autograph the guitar for the next owner, which adds another cool touch to an instrument that has already lived a pretty interesting life.
