1983 Hondo H-800 All-Star Bass - 30" Scale - Custom Paint - MIJ - Metallic Orange Burst

For your consideration, a 1983 Hondo H-800 All-Star Bass with a 30-inch scale and custom Metallic Orange Burst finish. This bass rocks. It started life as a made-in-Japan short-scale Hondo that was already fun, affordable, and completely gig-worthy, then somebody took it up a notch with a professionally sprayed heavy-metalflake orange burst finish. It looks killer in person, and the photos do not fully capture how much the finish lights up.

Underneath the sparkle, this is still a straightforward little P-style bass with a fast, compact feel. There are some dings, dents, and scuffs, but this is a 40-plus-year-old rock and roll machine. We are not worried about it. The strap buttons are ready for strap locks, the pickup has been replaced with an unknown P-style unit, the volume and tone pots have been upgraded to CTS pots, and the output jack was replaced with a Switchcraft.

The neck is straight, the truss rod works as it should, and fretwear is minimal. It has been freshly set up with low action and strung with flatwounds, which suit it perfectly. Warm, punchy, easy to play, and a whole lot of fun. No case is included.
