The Keno Queenie is something special. Built one at a time by hand, start to finish, by a single builder at Hunter Amplifiers, these don’t come down an assembly line—and they don’t get duplicated. Each one is its own thing, and this one is the only one like it. Exclusively available through Cumberland Guitars.
Offered here exactly as it was built: a rugged, bare steel chassis that puts the circuit front and center. It’s raw, industrial, and honest—whether you run it as a desktop studio rig or drop it into a custom headshell or combo cabinet of your choosing.
At its core, the Queenie is a pure Class A, single-ended amplifier delivering 5 watts of incredibly touch-sensitive tone. It responds instantly to your hands, moving from clear and articulate to rich, blooming overdrive without ever feeling forced. The tube-driven tremolo is deep and musical, with a pulse that pulls you in and keeps you there.
Under the hood, this build leans into a carefully selected set of NOS tubes, each chosen for both tone and longevity. The front end is driven by a rugged JAN 5654W pentode built to military spec by GE in 1987. A Soviet-era 6N2P from 1972 handles the cathode follower and tremolo duties. Power comes from a 1948 Philco 7C5, delivering that punchy, unmistakable American voice, while a 1951 National Union 6X5GT rectifier provides a smooth, vintage-style sag. Every tube in this amp is true new old stock, seeing its first service here.
Controls are straightforward and interactive, with high and low inputs, volume and tone shaping, and dedicated speed and depth controls for the tremolo. It’s a simple layout, but the range of usable tones is wide—this amp can stay clean and articulate or push into a rich, harmonically complex grind depending on how you approach it.
This is not a mass-produced amp, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a one-off piece built with intention, personality, and a clear point of view.
