Early 1970s Kay K-1B Short Scale Bass - SG Body - w/ Gig Bag
For your consideration, a neat little old Kay K-1B Short Scale Bass!
These are cool basses...they're lightweight, compact, simple, and fun to play. A slab body with a SG-style shape looks great playing any style of music. We'll never know now many kids cranked out some tunes in a garage with their friends on one of these, but I'm sure it was a lot! This one is in great shape with no missing parts and no signs of major repair. It has been played, of course, but not abused. The neck is straight, the truss rod works in both directions, the fretwear is minimal and not affecting intonation or playability, and the stock electronics sound healthy and offer more tonal range than one would expect on such a simple instrument. The bass has low action and nails a lot of old wooly bass tones with ease. The bridge cover, which seems to often be missing on these, has a wad of foam under it to mute the strings for a warmer, thuddier sound. A nice padded gig bag is included.
