1954 Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Junior Tube Amp - Fully Serviced

For your consideration, a 1954 Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Junior amp. One of just 1,158 GA-5 amps shipped by Gibson in 1954, and this one is absolutely dialed in. Small old Gibsons like this are easy to love — simple circuit, great response, and that raw little tube-amp voice that gets better the harder you lean on it.

This one was freshly serviced in 2026 by Hunter Amplifiers, our longtime choice for vintage tube amp restoration. The goal was simple: make it safe, make it reliable, and keep the character that makes an old GA-5 worth owning.

A properly grounded three-prong power cable was installed and the original “death cap” was safely decommissioned. The electrolytic section received a full recap, along with replacement dropping resistors, pentode screen and grid-leak resistors, the 6V6 cathode resistor, and all coupling capacitors. Every original component removed during the work is included with the amp for anyone who likes keeping the old guts together with the piece.

The original Rola speaker was professionally reconed in 2026 and sounds fantastic. The speaker, transformers, potentiometer, and chassis serial number all date correctly to 1954. The tube complement is a mix of original tubes and strong NOS replacements also dating to 1954.

All jacks, switches, controls, and tube sockets have been cleaned, adjusted, and thoroughly tested. No excuses, no deferred maintenance, no wondering what needs attention next. This amp was rebuilt with reliability in mind and is ready to be played.

And it sounds fantastic. Warm and lively at lower volume, gritty and wonderfully raw when pushed — textbook little ’50s Gibson amp behavior.
