1960 Framus Sorella Archtop Cello Guitar Model F5/59 - Sunburst
For your consideration, a lovely giant archtop from Framus, the 1960 Sorella Cello Guitar, Model F5/59!
This is a seriously gorgeous guitar. We always have a nice assortment of old archtops in the building, and this one definitely stands out from across the room. Framus sure made a good looking jazz box! This Sovella is playable and ready to be enjoyed, but there are some minor issues that could be sorted out to take this guitar to the next level....many of these are typical Framus issues and not signs of abuse or neglect. The headstock has a badge from Paul Grutzner Musikhaus that I assume is the original retailer of this guitar and does not appear to still be in business. The original tuners work well. The original nut has a small chunk missing but this is not affecting playability. The neck is straight, but you can feel the transition between the fingerboard and neck where they have swelled and shrunk at different rates over the years. This also is not a playability issues but we wanted to be fully transparent on the guitar's condition. The fingerboard has a split, common on ebony boards, but it is stable and not moving when we apply pressure. The original frets have a lot of life left in them but could use a leveling and some fallaway added to the final frets. It is playable as it is, but to be a daily driver, we recommend having some fretwork done. The pickguard is original and has been repaired where it attached to the neck. There have been some not-so-great repairs done to attached the pickguard, but it is all there and is currently attached. The bridge has been replaced, but the clamshell tailpiece is still intact. The guitar had a neck reset at some point. It plays well, but there is some fret buzz on the upper frets. It's wild that such a big elegant guitar of this age isn't worth a whole lot more money! NO cracks in the body.
