1960 Gibson Gibsonette Tremolo GA-8T Discoverer - 1x12 - Tube Combo Amp

For your consideration, a 1960 Gibson Gibsonette Tremolo GA-8T Discoverer 1x12 tube combo amp. What a fantastic old Gibson amp. These have a great voice of their own, with plenty of warm vintage character, a very usable breakup, and that wonderful onboard tremolo that makes you want to keep playing.

This one has been fully serviced with the goal of making it safe, reliable, and ready to actually use. A grounded three-prong power cord was installed, and the original accessory outlet and so-called “death cap” were safely decommissioned and removed. The amp received a full electrolytic recap, the large-wattage resistors were replaced as needed, and the failed power tubes were replaced with vintage tubes and biased to approximately 70%.

The vintage Gibson-branded 12AX7 and Gibson 5Y3GT rectifier both tested good and remain in the amp. The chassis interior was cleaned, including removal of mildew residue from the wiring and components, and all potentiometers, tube sockets, and jacks were cleaned and serviced. Chassis hardware was tightened and the amp was thoroughly tested after the work was completed.

It remains original aside from the grounded power cord and the failed or out-of-spec components replaced during service. The original removed parts are included for those who like having the original guts around with the amp. It is now safe to use, reliable, fully functional, and sounds fantastic.
