1968 Gibson Hummingbird - w/Hardshell Case

For your consideration, a 1968 Gibson Hummingbird with a newer molded hardshell case. This one has the look. We cannot stop staring at it. In a store packed with great vintage gear, it still stands out from across the room.

It has miles — real honky-tonk, stage, and studio miles. Honest wear and tear everywhere you want to see it, but no signs of abuse. Guitars only end up looking like this by being somebody’s #1 for a very long time. There are songs left inside this one, and it is going to make somebody very happy.

For as well traveled as it is, the guitar remains surprisingly original. All of the hardware is original, including the frets and the adjustable bridge with its original rosewood saddle. We replaced the truss rod nut because the original had become rounded over; the original nut is included with the guitar. The truss rod now works properly in both directions and the neck is straight.

The bridge shows evidence of an old repaired fracture. It appears to have been reglued a long time ago and has held up well. The guitar does not need a neck reset, and the top is actually less distorted than we commonly see on Hummingbirds from this period.

It has been freshly set up and restrung in our shop and is simply a lovely old guitar to sit with. It sounds like a Hummingbird. It plays like a Hummingbird. It just happens to look cooler than most of them.
