1969 Gibson SG Special - Refinished Silver - Humbuckers - w/ Chainsaw Case
RAD! You know it!
Check this one out: a real deal 1969 Gibson SG that did not make it through the 1980s without a bunch of 1980s modifications. Of course, we would rather be discussing a minty fresh 100% original SG Special, but that just isn't the case here, and that's ok, too. I mean, look at it. It's pretty cool as it sits. I'm always tempted to strip old refins and turn them back to stock but this one is cool as it sits, so we left it alone. This SG Special appears to have had a neck/body fracture in the typical spot that they normally break on old SGs. It was professionally reglued and the whole guitar was resprayed this light Silver color. Silver looks great on an SG! The finish is old...likely from the 1980s. It feels like a pro sprayed it with actual paint equipment and not just done by some moron with a rattle can in their back yard. The headstock doesn't show signs of ever being broken. The original serial is still mostly visible on the back of the headstock. The tuners were replaced with German Schallers...the good ones! The nut and frets are original. The neck is straight and the truss rod works in both directions. Both P-90s were replaced.... the bridge pickup is an old Dimarzio and the neck pickup is a real Velvet Hammer! Again...RAD! That's the Joan Jett 'bucker! A trio of mini-switches were also added, because......1980s! :) One is for Series/Parallel switching of the Velvet Hammer, one is for coil-splitting the Dimarzio, and the third is an On/Off switch for muting yourself quickly if needed. The first thing we did with this guitar is crank it through that JCM800 to make sure it did all the 1980s stuff properly. That On/Off comes in handy with high gain! The pickguard and the rest of the electronics are stock. The pots date to 1969. A stop-tailpiece was added, along with a real Leo Quan Badass bridge. The guitar intonates as it should, all electronics work as they should, and the guitar has low action and a fast feel from a complete setup and fresh strings. It is ready to rock! A real Gibson chainsaw protector case is included. All three latches are intact and functional but the case has been painted for some reason.
