1970 Guild S-50 - Black - w/ Case
Here's one we don't see too often, a sleek 1970 Guild S-50 in Black!
We love these old Guild solidbody guitars - the batwing swept-body style has just the right amount of SG-body influence. You can tell it rocks just by looking at it, and we appreciate that! This one is in "player's grade" condition, meaning it is an authentic vintage piece that has had some modifications and seen some use. It's no museum piece, this one is ready to be played. You could even play it hard and gig with it and not have to worry about destroying it. The neck is straight, the truss rod works in both directions, and the original frets have plenty of life left. We're not sure what happened to the paint on the back of the headstock... perhaps the previous owned used a deli slicer as a guitar stand? Who knows.... the serial number is still intact, which is great. The pickup has been replaced and we were unable to figure out what it is. It is old and it does sounds better than we expected, and has a fatter humbucker sound than what we remember the stock pickup sounding like in this model. This is a great doom/sludge/shoegaze/indie/garage/stoner guitar, but it also handles the blues and all of the grunge and punk stuff we threw at it. The knobs have been replaced, and the controls work without static. The bridge and bridge cover are original and fully working as they should. The original black finish is checked and cracked throughout. It looks like mostly graceful natural wear (except the back of the headstock). Black is a rarer color on this model....most of them out there are white, red, walnut, or sunburst. There are no cracks in the body and a blacklight scan showed no signs of previous crack repairs or any signs of cracks beginning to form. The guitar has low action from a fresh setup and new strings. The original chipboard case is included.
