1975 Fender Jazz Bass – 3-Tone Sunburst
A proper mid-’70s Jazz Bass that checks a lot of the boxes players hope to see.
This 1975 Fender Jazz Bass wears the classic 3-Tone Sunburst finish and weighs in at 9 lbs 9 oz without the covers installed, which is right in that sweet spot for a ’70s Jazz Bass. Not too heavy, not featherweight—just a solid, comfortable instrument with the feel these basses are known for.
The maple neck and maple fingerboard feature white pearloid block inlays and white binding, a combination we’ve always loved and one that doesn’t show up nearly as often we'd like. The neck is straight, the frets show only minimal wear, and nothing about the fret condition is affecting intonation or playability. It’s a nice fast neck that feels exactly like a good mid-’70s Fender should.
The tuners and nut are original. The bullet truss rod nut has been replaced with a correct Fender replacement, and the original bullet is included with the bass. The truss rod functions properly and the instrument is set up and playing well.
Electronically, the bass is largely original. The tone pot has been replaced, and the bridge pickup has been professionally rewound, while the rest of the electronics remain stock and are functioning properly. The pickup mounting screws have also been replaced, though the original screws are included.
The original chrome bridge cover, chrome pickup cover, and thumb rest are all included with the bass. We love the look of those covers installed, but we’ve been playing this one quite a bit around the shop and they tend to get in the way, so they’re currently off the bass and ready for the next owner to decide.
Tonally, this bass lands right where a good 1975 Jazz Bass should. Clear, punchy, articulate, and extremely usable across a lot of styles. It’s been played over the years, but there are no signs of abuse—just honest wear that comes from being used the way instruments are supposed to be used. As most vintage players will tell you, the ones that get played tend to sound the best.
The original case is included.
