1982 Gibson S-180 Sonex Deluxe - Candy Apple Red
I love that we have finally hit a point in time where it feels like the Sonex guitars are getting some love. Prices continue to rise, clean examples are getting harder to find, and the online comments have turned from negative to fond as people reminisce about how much fun they used to have on their Sonex. They aren't bad guitars at all, they just don't quite offer the true Les Paul experience that people seem to expect out of a Sonex. It isn't a Les Paul, sorry, but it does have it's own sound and personality, and that's cool, too, man. It's totally usable, and we wouldn't hesitate to gig with this rock machine!
This S-180 Sonex Deluxe hails from 1982, the first year for the elusive Candy Apple Red finish. This guitar is 100% original, but it has seen plenty of use. There are paint chips, dings, scratches, the ghosts of stickers past, and scuffs. It's a 40+ year old rock machine, so of course it looks like this. It has rocked. This one has seen some action. It plays great, has been setup and restrung, and is honestly hard to put down once you start playing. The stock electronics all sound great and work as they should. The pickups, switch, jack and one pot are original. All hardware is original. The neck is straight, the truss rod works in both directions, and the original frets have plenty of life left.
