1980 Fender Precision P Bass - Schecter Van Nuys Hot Rod Parts Bass - Finish Stripped - w/Case

For your consideration, a 1980 Fender Precision Bass hot-rodded with a late-’70s Schecter Van Nuys neck, currently wearing a newer Fender mint green pickguard and including the original black guard and an older chipboard case. This one has a lot going on, and we are into it.

The body is an original 1980 Fender Precision Bass body with the original finish stripped away. At some point it was routed for a second P-Bass pickup. A newer mint green guard is currently installed, but the original black pickguard is included if you want to take it back in that direction later. The original guard is also routed and currently has a sticker covering the route. 

The original grey-bottom Fender pickup remains in place, along with the original pots dating to 1980, original bridge, and original neck plate. The neck is a figured Schecter Van Nuys maple neck with a serial number that places it around 1979, complete with its original brass nut. It is a seriously nice neck and a big part of what makes this bass feel as good as it does.

It weighs an even 8 pounds, which is wonderfully light for a vintage P-Bass-style instrument. The neck is straight, the truss rod works as it should, and it has been freshly set up with low action and a new set of flatwounds. It plays and sounds fantastic.

As it sits, this is a killer vintage hot-rod bass with real Fender and early Schecter parts, plenty of personality, and no reason to baby it. It would also be a fantastic head start for somebody wanting to do a proper custom-color refin without stripping an untouched vintage Fender to get there.

An older chipboard case is included.
